Track and Field Day Reschduled

As you know, we had to cancel our Junior High Track and Field Day on Tuesday, May 16 due to poor air quality. We decided to schedule a modified version of the track and field events on Thursday, May 18 during the school day in our back field.

All junior category students (mostly grade 7s) will compete in blocks 1 and 2, intermediates in blocks 3 and 4 (mostly grade 8s), and seniors in blocks 5 and 6 (mostly grade 9s). Students will not be required to compete in a minimum of 4 events to accommodate the change in location and shortened time. When students are not competing in the track and field events, they will attend their scheduled Day 5 classes and receive regular programming and instruction.

We will select our track and field team based on these results to represent Lakeland Ridge School at the EIAA championships on Tuesday, May 23. We will fill events not contested on May 18 based on comparable events from the meet. There is no school between May 18-22 so we ask families to watch their emails for confirmation of entry and a permission click form which will need to be completed on the weekend for students selected to attend the EIAA championships. Students selected will meet Mr. Fisher and our coaching staff at Strathcona Athletic Park Tuesday morning at 8:30AM. No bus transportation will be provided to and from the EIAA championship. All travel arrangements will need to be coordinated between the student and their caregivers.

If you are able to volunteer at Lakeland Ridge on Thursday, May 18, please email Mr. Fisher at rob.fisher@eips.ca or contact the school at 780-416-9018.

Thank you for your understanding and support of our Physical Education program.
